In any fantasy game, collecting loot is a key element of the experience. We wanted a wide variety of magic items in our game, but we also needed a system to keep them organized and easy to identify without becoming cluttered or confusing.

In Kingdom Hex, items can be acquired in several ways. You can find them by opening chests around the map, completing quests, buying them from shops, or taking them from defeated foes.
Since there are so many unique items, we knew that we would need to describe them in a few different ways.

First, we made a chromatic system, which uses color to represent different types of magic. For example, healing magic is white, fire magic is red, and so on. This helps to indicate the type of effect an item has.
Next is a metallic system, which indicates the item's tier. Bronze items are the most common, silver is a mid-tier, and gold is the highest.

Most items use either the chromatic or metallic system, but some use both. Magic books, for example, have a color for their magic type and a metal to denote their tier.
We believe this system helps keep things nice and organized, and we hope you enjoy it.
